The Saints Are Coming!
First off, GO SEE BLOOD DIAMOND! But only if you want to be utterly haunted. -Disclaimer- it's very violent and heart wrenching so be warned. But I wouldn't recommend it if there wasn't something redeemable, and much of the movie is.
With that said, how about a little musing?
Being surrounded with all the mirth and joy of the holidays has been a wonderful blessing. But sometimes I forget what it is I'm suppose to be hoping for. Sometimes I think I enjoy life too much... sounds absolutely puritanical, doesn't it? Maybe "enjoy" isn't the right word, let's try "boast in".
For instance, I think about my blessings and my dreams and my plans and sometimes wonder if I really want Christ to come back
tomarrow.
On the other hand, I see and read about (and really experience so little) so much suffering, consequence of our first great choice, and I pine for the day when I will stand with the saints, when...
And they shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn the war anymore."
Isaiah 2:4
It's sad that these hopeless nicotines of a thoroughly dying world can seduce us away from the great vision of the Kingdom. (Story of the year right?) If I understand it right, that vision is almost the essence of the faithful: "The hope to which we were called" Ephesians 2:18.
On the note of visions... This music video by U2 and Green day is pretty sweet. Reminds me of the last part of Isaiah 2:4. And while the reality of the vision is dubious, past the political message, like many U2 creations, it is very spiritual in essence. Enjoy.
